Introduction
Some claims can be tested and some cannot. Five times the volume is not a measurement anyone outside a lab can verify, and repeating it would be pretending. So this review sets it aside and reports the four things that are genuinely observable across five nine-hour days.
Testing conditions
Five nine-hour days, with one, two and three coats photographed separately at a fixed camera distance and fixed lighting. Three tests on uncurled lashes, two on curled.
Coats applied and photographed at each stage. Under-eye photographed at hours 3, 6 and 9.

Observations
- Coat 1 Volume
Separated and defined rather than voluminous. This is a lengthening result at one coat, whatever the packaging says.
- Coat 3 Volume
Volume arrives at coat three, along with slight clumping at the inner lashes on four of five tests. The brush is too wide for the inner corner.
- Hour 3 Wear
No transfer to the under-eye on any test.
- Hour 6 Wear
Faint under-eye shadow on two of five tests, both on days with a curled lash.
- Hour 9 Flaking
No flaking on any of the five tests. This is the strongest result of the review and it matches the brand claim.
- Hour 9 Removal
Warm water and a cream cleanser removed it fully, as stated.
Visual evidence
Coat-by-coat photography at fixed distance, plus under-eye frames at three check-ins on each of the five days.

Assessment
Suitability
Strengths
- No flaking across five nine-hour tests
- Removes with warm water and a cream cleanser
- Excellent separation at one coat
- Formula stays workable for the full three coats
Limitations
- The brush is too wide for inner lashes
- Volume only appears at coat three
- Faint under-eye transfer on curled lashes
- Two shades only
Suits well
- Anyone who prefers definition over drama at one coat
- People who want to avoid oil cleansers
- Long days where flaking is the main worry
May not suit
- Anyone who wants volume from a single coat
- People with short or fine inner lashes
- Anyone needing waterproof performance
The verdict
Ignore the 5x. This is a well-behaved, genuinely flake-free mascara with a brush that is one size too big. At three coats it delivers.
- Best for
- Flake-free long days and buildable definition
- Would repurchase
- Yes
Conclusion
The flake-free claim held on all five tests, which is uncommon in a non-waterproof formula worn for nine hours, and it is the claim worth buying this for. The volume claim is not something I or anyone else outside a laboratory can confirm, and I would rather say that than fill the gap with an adjective.
Update log
-
Added two further tests on curled lashes after reader questions. Under-eye transfer observation added. Verdict unchanged.
