The Six-Stage Test
Same six stages, every product, so that any two reviews can be read against each other.
How this actually works
- The product arrives.
- Zina uses it herself, on her own skin.
- She records herself using it, and publishes that on Instagram.
- She continues using and watching the product over the days that follow.
- She publishes her evaluation: whether, in her own experience, the product did what it claims to do.
This is Zina's own, first-hand experience with a product — not a laboratory test, a clinical trial, a dermatological assessment, or an independent scientific study. It does not guarantee the same result for anyone else, and it is not a claim that a product suits every skin type.
Most beauty reviews are written from memory. Someone uses a product for a while, forms an impression, and writes the impression down. That is not worthless, but it is not comparable: two reviews written that way cannot be placed side by side, because neither one tells you what was held constant.
Everything reviewed on this site goes through the same six stages. The stages are not there to make the testing sound rigorous. They are there so that when I say one foundation lasted longer than another, you can check what I actually did.
What this is
This is structured personal testing, not clinical testing. One person, one face, no control group, no laboratory. It can tell you how a product behaved on my skin under conditions I have written down. It cannot tell you what a product will do to your skin, and nothing on this site is medical, dermatological or scientific advice.
PROJECT MOCK METHOD. This six-stage protocol was drafted for this project and has not been confirmed as Zina Almokri's practice. It is not a verified methodology, and nothing here is clinical, medical or laboratory testing.
The six stages
- 01
Baseline
Establish a fixed reference point before any product touches the skin, so that every later observation is a comparison rather than a memory.
What is observed
- Bare skin in named, repeatable lighting
- Current skin condition in plain descriptive language
- Time of day and the products already worn, if any
What is recorded
- Reference photograph at a fixed camera distance
- Written note of lighting setup and time
What this stage does not prove
A baseline photograph does not establish a skin type, a skin condition, or anything about anyone else's skin. It is a starting frame for one test on one day.
- 02
Application
Record how the product was applied, because a large share of what looks like product failure is application difference.
What is observed
- Quantity used
- Tool: fingers, brush, damp sponge, applicator supplied
- Preparation steps and any waiting time before the next layer
- How the texture behaves during application, including set time
What is recorded
- Application photograph or short video
- Written note of quantity, tool and wait time
What this stage does not prove
A good or bad application result does not establish that the formula is good or bad. It establishes how it behaved with this technique, which is why the technique is written down.
- 03
Wear window
Observe the product across a fixed period with timed check-ins, rather than forming one impression at the end of the day.
What is observed
- Complexion products: eight hours, with check-ins at hours 0, 3, 6 and 8
- Skincare: four weeks of consistent use, with weekly notes
- Where and when any change first appears, not only that it appeared
What is recorded
- Photographs at each timed check-in under the baseline lighting
- Written notes recorded at the time, not reconstructed afterwards
What this stage does not prove
Eight hours of wear says nothing about how a product performs over months, and four weeks of skincare use cannot isolate a product from the season, sleep, diet or anything else changing at the same time.
- 04
Conditions
Publish the environment the test happened in, because a long-wear claim tested in air conditioning tells you almost nothing about a long-wear day outdoors.
What is observed
- Temperature and humidity range
- Indoor, outdoor, or mixed
- Activity level during the wear window
- Anything unusual: a meal, a long drive, heavy air conditioning
What is recorded
- Recorded temperature and humidity readings
- Written activity log for the wear window
What this stage does not prove
Conditions describe one test. A product that broke down at 38 degrees has not been shown to break down at 22, and the reverse is equally true.
- 05
Comparison
Place the product against something already tested under the same protocol, so a verdict has a reference point instead of floating free.
What is observed
- Performance against at least one previously tested product in the same category
- Split-face testing where the format allows it
- The base layer underneath held constant across both products
What is recorded
- Side-by-side photography under identical lighting
- The comparison product named in the review, with a link to its own review
What this stage does not prove
A comparison ranks two products under one set of conditions on one face. It does not establish that one is better than the other in general, and it never establishes which will suit you.

- 06
Revisit
Re-test later, because formulas are reformulated, packaging changes, and opinions move.
What is observed
- Whether the product still performs as first recorded
- Whether the formula, shade range, applicator or packaging has changed
- Whether the original verdict still holds
What is recorded
- A dated entry in the review's update log
- New photography where the result changed
What this stage does not prove
A revisit confirms nothing about batches other than the ones tested. Formula variation between batches and markets is real and is not something one person can measure.
Reviews that used this stage
What this cannot tell you
- Whether a product will suit your skin. One person cannot answer that, and any review that claims to is selling something.
- Anything medical, dermatological or clinical. Persistent skin concerns belong with a qualified professional.
- Long-term effects. The longest test on this site is four weeks.
- Ingredient safety or efficacy. Reading an ingredient list is not testing it.
- How a product performs in a climate it was not tested in.
